A new €20m fund has been launched under the 2024/25 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) to enhance outdoor recreation projects and amenities across Ireland, particularly in rural areas.

The funding aims to develop natural amenities such as mountains, lakes, rivers, beaches, and forest walks, providing valuable recreational and tourism opportunities for local communities.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, shared that the initiative is part of the “Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors” strategy, which seeks to grow outdoor recreational activities sustainably and responsibly.

Since its inception in 2016, the scheme has supported over 1,770 projects with a total investment exceeding €129m and will prioritize projects demonstrating strong community engagement.
