Embraer announced a four-year halt on the development of the E175-E2, as revealed in a recent securities filing, while continuing production of the existing E175 model.
The decision is attributed to restrictions in the US mainline scope clause and prevailing global market conditions, which limit regional operators from using larger aircraft for mainline carriers.
Despite the pause, Embraer reported satisfactory demand for the current E175 jet and asserted that development of the E175-E2 will resume after the suspension period.
The company has outstanding orders for 164 E175 jets but has yet to secure a single customer for the delayed E2 variant, with US regional operators like SkyWest Airlines and Envoy Air being the largest users of the existing model.
