England’s Virgin Atlantic returned to profitability in 2024, recording a pretax profit of £20m compared to a loss of £139m in 2023.

The airline saw an increase in passengers, with numbers rising to 5.6m in 2024 from 5.3m the year before.

Chief executive Shai Weiss noted 2024 as a pivotal year for the airline’s transformation and expressed optimism for 2025 despite economic uncertainties.

Virgin Atlantic repaid £174m of pandemic debts during 2024, contributing to a stronger financial position.

The airline ended the year with a cash position of £443m.
