Ethiopian Airlines has signed an MoU with Airbus, ordering eleven A350-900s. This brings the airline’s total A350 order book to 33, including four A350-1000s yet to be delivered.
Currently, Ethiopian Airlines operates twenty A350-900s.
The airline also ordered eleven B787-9s with options for 15 more, as well as twenty B737-8s with options for 21 more from Boeing.
Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tasew, stated that this deal will help the airline modernise and expand its fleet in line with their growth plan and Vision 2035 Strategy. Apart from the A350s, Ethiopian’s widebody fleet consists of six B777-200(LR)s and four B777-300(ER)s.
The order is still subject to finalisation, and no specific delivery dates have been disclosed. Ethiopian Airlines currently operates thirteen B737 MAX 8s with seventeen more on order and has a fleet of ten B787-9s and nineteen B787-8s. They also operate other aircraft models such as the B737-800, B777-200(LR), and B777-300(ER).
