EU offers free inter-rail passes for 40,000 eighteen-year-olds

The EU has opened applications for 40,000 free rail passes open to EU residents who were born in 2007 for travel 1 March 2026–30 April 2027.

Irish 18-year-olds may apply solo or in groups of up to five until 13 November 2025 noon CET. Passes include discounts on culture, accommodation and local transport. Over 370,000 young Europeans have travelled since 2018 launch.

The programme promotes sustainable rail exploration and European identity.
