European defence ministers agreed to develop a drone wall along borders with Russia and Ukraine to counter airspace violations.
The decision follows incidents, including Russian drones breaching Polish airspace on 10 September 2025 and Danish airport closures.
Andrius Kubilius, EU defence commissioner, stated the drone shield could be built within a year, with a roadmap planned soon. Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland lead the project, with NATO and Ukrainian officials involved.
The initiative will be discussed at EU summits in Copenhagen and Brussels in October 2025. Andrius Kubilius shared: “Russia is testing the EU and Nato, and our response must be firm, united and immediate.”
Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz shared: “The threat from the Russian Federation is serious. We must respond to it in a very radical manner.”
Mette Frederiksen shared: “The drone incidents in her country were part of a new reality facing Europe, in which hybrid attacks were fiercer and more frequent.”
Ursula von der Leyen shared: “This is not an abstract ambition. It is the bedrock of credible defence.”
