The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating a potential close call collision at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Last week, a Eurocopter helicopter and a United Airlines jet had a near miss. The helicopter pilot was instructed to change course to avoid a runway, while a United Airlines Boeing 767 jet was departing on a parallel runway at the same time. The aircraft was able to take off without incident and landed safely in Houston. The FAA will be examining the role of air traffic control and other factors in their investigation.

This incident adds to the growing number of near miss incidents both in the air and on the ground at airports across the country. The FAA recently held a meeting with airport stakeholders to address these issues, which include concerns about staff shortages in air traffic control stations.
