Fingal County Council has denied Dublin Airport operator DAA permission to demolish the spiral parking ramps at terminal one due to insufficient justification for their removal.
The spiral ramps, constructed in 1972, previously provided access to now-obsolete upper-level car parks and are considered a notable example of brutalist architecture.
The council concluded that demolishing the ramps would negatively impact the quality of the new facade works approved for terminal one in 2020.
DAA expressed disappointment with the decision, stating that removing the spirals is essential for upgrading terminal one and enhancing passenger experience, with an option to appeal within four weeks.
