Finnair has established a science-based target to reduce its carbon emissions intensity by 34.5pc by 2033, using 2023 as the baseline year, aiming for an approximate 13pc reduction in absolute CO2 emissions.
The target, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), emphasizes operational decarbonization through investments in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), improved efficiency, network optimization, and fleet renewal, with SAF targeting over half of the intended CO2 reduction.
The airline has realigned its long-term climate goals, now aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, in line with industry objectives, moving away from reliance on offsetting and focusing on direct emissions reductions.
Finnair will monitor and report its progress annually in sustainability reports, reinforcing its commitment to tackling challenges in aviation decarbonization and enhancing the sustainable travel experience.
