A Newark-bound transatlantic flight from Edinburgh was cancelled after a taser was found in the pilot’s bag in airport security.

The 56-year-old pilot, scheduled to fly the United Airlines plane from Edinburgh Airport, was arrested and charged with a firearms offense.

Tasers not issued by the police are illegal in Scotland, and the pilot is due in court Monday. The airline stated that the pilot was “removed from service,” leading to the last-minute cancellation of the flight.
