Frankfurt Airport has revealed that it is the world’s first airport to regularly implement walk-through scanners for passenger security checks.

The technology was trialed in 2023 at Concourse A in Terminal 1, utilizing QPS Walk2000 360° scanners that allow passengers to walk through at a normal speed.

The scanners, which feature millimeter-wave technology and AI-based detection software, focus on real-time identification of potentially dangerous objects, enhancing security efficiency.

With approximately 18,000 departing passengers daily at Concourse A, the airport plans to expand the use of this technology into additional security lanes of Terminal 1 and into the new Terminal 3, expected to open in 2026.
