Fresh warnings have been issued after an Irish woman who travelled to Turkey for weight-loss surgery has died, and the cause of death is currently unknown.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and ready to provide consular assistance.

Concerns have been raised over the past two years about Irish citizens experiencing complications after seeking medical procedures in Turkey, prompting the DFA to issue warnings.

Several deaths have been reported in recent years, including those resulting from weight-loss and dental procedures.

It’s worth noting that the true number of deaths may be higher than reported. The reasons for traveling abroad for medical procedures include high costs, long waiting lists, and limited availability of certain treatments in Ireland.
