Gatwick Airport security workers, members f UNITE trade union, plan to strike over the August bank holiday weekend, potentially causing holiday disruption.
The strike is likely to impact one of the busiest periods of the summer season, scheduled from 22 August to 26 August and from 29 August to 2 September.
Workers, in dispute with baggage screening contractor ICTS, are demanding a £1-an-hour pay rise.
Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham, expressed that ICTS has sufficient funds to provide a fair pay rise and supports workers in their cause.
The striking workers handle security checks and screenings at departure gates, which will lead to disruptions in all flights leaving Gatwick.
Sharon Graham shared, unityeICTS has more than enough money to offer these workers a fair pay rise. Not doing so is just corporate greed. ICTS’ Gatwick workers will receive Unite’s complete backing for as long as it takes.”
