Greek flights resume after air traffic radio failure

Services have resumed after a radio frequency collapse grounded flights across Greece for hours on 4 January 2026 affecting thousands of travellers.

The disruption hit communications during a busy post-holiday period. Limited services restored using backup frequencies by afternoon. Authorities increased hourly departures to 45 at Greek airports. The cause remained under investigation with outdated equipment cited.

Panagiotis Psarros shared “For some reason all frequencies were suddenly lost. We could not communicate with aircraft in the sky.”
