The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce is proposing a merger between Aurigny Air Services and Blue Islands to strengthen the regional airline’s resilience following disruptions and cancellations at Aurigny.
This advocacy follows a review initiated by the States’ Trading Supervisory Board into Aurigny’s operations, which have faced issues due to fleet problems, including the premature withdrawal of an ATR72-600 from service.
James Ede-Golightly, the chamber’s director, emphasized that integrating the two airlines would enhance regional air connectivity for the Channel Islands and create a stronger, more efficient carrier.
In addition to the merger proposal, the chamber is recommending a new Air Policy Framework and various operational changes, including pooling Channel Island Control Zone revenues and upgrading Guernsey Airport to accommodate larger aircraft.
