The Town Centre First (TCF) initiative has approved 26 rural towns in the ‘town centre first’ scheme aimed at addressing dereliction and creating new community spaces, allowing areas to pursue projects like redeveloping vacant sites, establishing community parks, and enhancing tourism attractions.
Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys and Minister of State for Local Government Kieran O’Donnell announced the approval of the additional 26 towns, each receiving €30,000 to finalize their redevelopment plans, developed in consultation with local communities to reflect their vision for the area.
The Town Regeneration Officers, supported by government funding through various programs such as the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, will drive the implementation of the new plans, aligning with the Town Centre First approach to empower local communities in directing investment for town enhancement and revitalisation.
