Global and regional hotel groups are examining opportunities in Syria as the country rebuilds after civil war. Tourist numbers more than doubled in the first half of 2026 to 3.52m. Companies including Accor, Wyndham and Eagle Hills are assessing projects in Damascus and coastal areas while new air links from Gulf carriers improve access.

Accor is in advanced negotiations for two hotel projects in the country. Wyndham Hotels and Resorts is scouting locations in Damascus and coastal beach regions. Eagle Hills signed a framework agreement for large-scale urban and tourism developments in Damascus and Latakia. Etihad Airways and other Gulf carriers have increased flights to Damascus.

Most existing hotel stock is older and requires significant modernisation. Despite the US removing Syria from its state sponsors of terrorism list official travel advisories from Western governments continue to warn against travel due to lingering security risks. Electronic and international payment networks remain restricted or limited to select foreign-issued cards.
