The Hugh Lane Gallery has enjoyed a surge of visitors before it closes next month for three years as part of a revitalisation plan announced by Dublin City Council.

Rooms that remain open to the public for a few more weeks house a selection of the Hugh Lane collection, work by Francis Bacon, an exhibition by Ailbhe Ní Bhriain and the Harry Clarke-stained glass room.

Parnell Square will undergo extensive refurbishment to transform it into a cultural quarter, including a new city library. The area surrounding the gallery is known for its historical significance and diverse past. Local businesses, including two celebrated restaurants, say they will be unaffected although they may face a slight drop in foot traffic due to the gallery’s closure.
