Luis Gallego CEO of IAG

IAG’s CEO Luis Gallego stated in an interview that the company is open to acquisition opportunities in the South America market.

Gallego mentioned that if IAG’s planned acquisition of Air Europa is blocked by the European Commission, the company could consider bidding for TAP Air Portugal or a South American carrier as alternative options.

IAG is seeking to acquire the remaining 80pc of Air Europa’s issued share capital from Globalia, and it is confident that the merger will be approved by Brussels, citing the clearance of Lufthansa Group’s bid for a stake in Italy’s ITA Airways.

IAG, parent company of British Airways, Iberia, Vueling Airlines, Aer Lingus, and LEVEL, sees itself as a consolidation platform and is continuously looking at opportunities in the market.
