Aer Lingus is claiming that the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association (IALPA) of making unreasonable and irresponsible pay demands that could harm productivity and competitiveness.

The airline and the union are heading to the Labour Court on April 22 to settle the pay dispute.

IALPA is seeking a 27pc pay increase over three years for almost 800 pilots at Aer Lingus, while the company offered an 8.5pc rise that was rejected in January.

An independent Pilot Pay Tribunal recommended a 12.25pc increase in consolidated pay, with IALPA proposing a 20pc increase along with additional costs related to a 2019 crewing agreement.

Aer Lingus has warned pilots that not reaching a pay agreement could impact future investments in aircraft and growth plans, including expansion the fleet of Airbus A330 and A320LR/XLR aircraft.
