
IATA reports that global air cargo demand in January 2024 increased by 18.4pc compared to the previous year, with international operations experiencing a growth of 19.8pc.
Capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTKs), grew by 14.6pc year-on-year, driven by an increase in belly capacity in the international market.
Factors contributing to the strong air cargo growth included the booming e-commerce sector, outpacing trade and production growth, and improvements in the manufacturing output Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI).
Inflation in major economies showed signs of easing, but concerns over China’s economic slowdown persisted, with the country experiencing negative inflation rates.
