IATA reported 2024 as the year with the lowest number of new airline entrants and exits in a decade, with only 28 new airlines starting operations.

The new airlines introduced in 2024 included KM Malta Airlines, FlyGabon, and AirJapan, while 19 airlines, such as Canada Jetlines and Bonza, ceased operations.

The decline in new airline launches over the last three years is attributed to economic challenges, supply chain issues, and geopolitical factors affecting the aviation sector.

Europe and Asia-Pacific were identified as the leading regions for new airline launches, driven by market liberalization and economic growth, in contrast to North America’s mature aviation market.
