Irish people will now be able to travel to China and stay for up to 15 days without a visa.
The agreement was announced during the visit to Ireland by China premier Li Qiang.
According to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar: “That’s going to make family visits, tourist visits, business visits and academic visits so much easier – just being able to go to the airport without having to get a visa in advance.”
China is the 193rd country to give visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to holders of Ireland passports. The facility was extended to citizens from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia for a year from last November, bringing the total of exempt countries to 34.
