Sales of aviation fuel in ireland reached 1.36bn litres of jet kerosene in 2023, the highest annual energy demand in air travel ever recorded, up 12.7pc on the previous year, Margie McCarthy of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland said.

Overall  energy-related emissions were down 9.3pc, bringing emissions to their lowest level since 1993.

Emissions from electricity generation were down 20.9pc, mainly because of an increase in the amount of electricity imported by interconnector from England.
