Ireland trips to Spain on course to reach 2.1m in 2023

Irish visits to Spain are on course to reach a record 2,110,000 in 2023, nearly 50k more than the previous record of 2,053,385 set in 2019.

Visitor numbers to Spain in August were 48pc ahead of August 2019 and 9.1pc ahead of the year to date figures for 2019. 

Ireland’s share of the Spanish inbound tourist market is 2.8pc, slightly down from 2.9pc in 2019. Britain still holds 20.5pc of the market despite a steady decline in visitor numbers since Brexit, with France at 14.5pc and Germany on 12.4pc and Ireland behind the USA in ninth place. 

The number of visitors from Ireland was 281,729 in August, 22.4pc ahead of 2022 and 4.5pc ahead of the 269.599 recorded in August 2019

The number of visitors from Ireland in the first seven months of 2023 was 1,689,362 up 9.1pc on the 1.547.767 to August 2019.

The 2019 figures recorded 176,752 visitors from Russia and 934,959 in the year to date, 1.6pc of the inbound market.
