Visits to Portugal from Ireland up 35pc on pre pandemic switch Algarve taking 80pc share

Ireland visits to Portugal were up 6.3pc in 2-24 on the previous year and up 34.8pc on pre pandemic.

Ireland is Portugal’s tenth most important inbound tourist market with a  2.9pc share fo the total. The total number of visits to Portugal in 2024 reached 19,385,340.

In 2024, the visitor breakdown for Portugal including 2,460,006 from England, Scotland and Wales, and 1,729,858 from Germany.

In some parts of the country such as the Algarve, Ireland visits are ahead of larger markets. More than 8-0pc of irish tourism to Portugal goes to the Algarve.

Central Portugal is to host the Irish Travel Agents Association annual conference on October 1-5.
