Users have checked the weather forecast, wind conditions and tide times before going afloat. They have ensured an emergency action plan exists and that all crew receive a safety briefing. Individuals have informed a responsible person ashore of their plans and expected return time while wearing a suitable lifejacket at all times.

The organisations have reminded users to carry a reliable means of calling for help and to operate at a safe speed. The Code of Practice for the Safe Operation of Recreational Craft has provided guidance and remains available at www.safetyonthewater.gov.ie.
