
Irish residents took 12.6m outbound trips in 2023, according to CSO household travel survey data, with one in three trips being to England. They took 2m outbound same-day visits.

Ireland reported 14.3m domestic overnight trips last year. Spending was up to €3.1m compared to €2.9m in 2022.
Holiday at 45pc was the most common reason for domestic trips, followed closely by visits to friends or relatives at 40pc
The south, Clare, Tipperary, Limerick, Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow, Wexford, Cork and Kerry was the most popular region for domestic trips in 2023, with 42pc of overnight trips.
The east and Midlands at 36pc, Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Meath, Louth, Longford, Westmeath, Offaly, and Laois, was the second most popular destinations, accounting for 36pc of domestic trips.
northern and western regions, including Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon, accounted for 22pc of trips.
The survey showed an 11pc increase in domestic trips from October to December 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
Total domestic nights decreased slightly at 34m in 2023, compared with 34.2m in 2022.
