
Visitors from Ireland to Malta in January-September 2023 increased by 7.2pc compared to the same period in 2019 and 22pc compared with 2022. The number of visitors rose from 27,895 in 2022 to 37,027 in 2023.
Irish tourists’ expenditure in Malta also saw a significant increase of 30pc during the same period compared to 2022.
Overall, there has been a 30pc increase in visitors to Malta in January-September 2023 compared to 2022. The average length of stay is 6.9 nights, and the majority of visitors (78pc) were first-time visitors.
Tolene van der Merwe, Director of the Malta Tourism Authority for Britain & Ireland, expressed optimism for further growth and emphasized Malta’s popularity as a destination among Irish visitors, supported by direct flights with Ryanair from Dublin and Shannon Airport.
