Irish visits to Spain up 9.9pc in April & 18pc for year to date

Irish visits to Spain reached 239,152 in April, up 9.9pc for the month and up 18pc for the year to date compared with 2023.

The monthly rate of increase has fallen although numbers continue to rise, following January 146,667 (+26.9pc), February 132,954 (+20.1pc) and March 169,109 (+22.8pc).

Data from the week of 13-19 May on the TravelgateX platform shows that Andalusia, Catalonia, and the Balearic Islands are the top three regions leading hotel bookings in Spain since the beginning of April, accounting for approximately half of all bookings.

Andalusia has a market share of 18.9pc, followed by Catalonia with 17.8pc, and the Balearic Islands with 15.6pc.

Catalonia and Andalusia have alternated between first and second place in the past month and a half, while the Balearic Islands have consistently remained in third place.

Among the regions with the highest concentration of hotel bookings in Spain are Madrid with a 31.8pc increase, Catalonia with a 19.8pc increase, and the Basque Country with a 72.9pc increase.
