The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group has received funding to develop training and educational programmes for rescuing dolphins in Blacksod Bay, where 25 dolphins needed help in 2025.
The Mayo Sustainability Fund allocated €628,000 across 12 projects, established by Community Foundation Ireland and the Sunflower Charitable Organisation following a University College Dublin study on local sustainability efforts.
The Food Forest Project will expand networks along Clew Bay, focusing on community, collaboration, and education, with existing sites in Westport.
Mayo Dark Skies aims to achieve international Dark Sky Status through partnerships with climate organisations, lighting professionals, urban planners, and government.
Other initiatives include the Belleek Woods Enhancement Committee reducing agricultural runoff, Leave No Trace expanding the Croagh Patrick ambassadors programme, and BirdWatch Ireland conserving endangered birds in Annagh Marshes and Termoncarragh Meadows.
