AeroItalia is set to acquire a 93.86pc stake in Romania’s AirConnect, confirming earlier rumours of a potential investment.
The acquisition will strengthen AeroItalia’s presence in the Italian regional market and its feeder capacity towards its Rome Fiumicino hub. The contract for the share purchase is still being negotiated, and the impact on AirConnect’s business model will be revealed after the share transfer is complete.
The privately-owned Italian airline will likely acquire the stake from Iulian Bogdan Năstase.
AirConnect operates two ATR72-600s on behalf of AeroItalia, and they plan to add more ATR72-600s in 2024 for in-house scheduled operations. AeroItalia operates six B737-800s and leases additional aircraft.
