The IATA 2024 Annual Safety Report reflects strong overall safety performance, with a reported all-accident rate of 1.13 perm flights, an increase from the 1.09 recorded in 2023.

There were seven fatal accidents in 2024, resulting in 244 on-board fatalities, higher than both the previous year and the five-year average.

Regions experienced varied safety records, with North America maintaining a zero fatality risk and Africa’s accident rate rising to 10.59 perm sectors.

Rising GNSS interference poses urgent safety risks to aviation, with a notable increase in incidents reported in Türkiye, Iraq, and Egypt, which IATA says underscores the need for immediate action.
