KLM’s increased capacity from Cork to Amsterdam from 100 to 132 seats per aircraft will require a load factor of 80pc and higher value customers if it is to be retained.

The corporate segment, particularly from industries such as pharmaceuticals and technology, represents a major target for KLM’s strategy.

Jerome Salemi General Manger of KLM/Air France in Ireland says the survival of the route depends on whether the airline can attract ‘high value’ customers.

Mr Salemi shared: “We are very pragmatic. There is an ambition to develop in the Munster region, but we have to be realistic with our performance. We are very happy to increase our capacity, the number of seats out of Cork, and it will be a significant (indicator) this summer. Let’s see after the end of the summer, if we are successful.”
