KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has agreed to the publication of a report on flight cuts at Amsterdam Schiphol, originally commissioned alongside Royal Schiphol Group in 2023, by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management.

The decision to release the report came after findings were made public against the agreement that all parties must first give their approval, with concerns raised by KLM and the Board of Airline Representatives in the Netherlands (BARIN) about the analysis being incomplete and unbalanced.

The report, prepared by researchers from Dutch agencies SEO, Significance, and CE Delft, proposed higher air passenger taxes as a more effective solution to environmental issues than cuts to Schiphol’s capacity, with a focus on reducing night flights and incentivizing clean fuel usage.

KLM had previously challenged the Dutch government’s decision to introduce flight caps at Schiphol and agreed to halt late-night incoming flights to comply with planned noise and pollution reduction measures, with the airline accounting for about 60pc of total traffic at the airport.
