The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) is expected to announce a decision soon regarding the proposed merger between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, marking a crucial step in the approval process.
The DOJ has stated that the review appears nearly complete, following discussions between South Korea’s ambassador to the US and the DOJ’s antitrust chief.
Korean Air has been striving to finalize this merger for four years and has already secured approvals from the European Commission and Japan, contingent on certain concessions including selling parts of Asiana’s cargo operations.
The US government is likely to require similar concessions, and a decision from US competition authorities is anticipated by the end of November, with Korean Air’s leadership expressing confidence about obtaining approval.
