The Irish Government has confirmed that legislation is currently being drafted to remove the 32m annual passenger cap at Dublin Airport.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin told reporters in China that the cap, imposed in 2007 to address traffic concerns, no longer suits current circumstances. The Department of Transport has progressed work on the bill, with the Minister for Transport intending to seek Government agreement on the proposed approach soon.

In parallel, airport operator daa is advancing a planning application for infrastructure to support growth. The High Court has placed a stay on enforcing the cap for slot allocation pending a European Union court review.
