Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary told Newstalk interview Ciara Kelly that Ryanair will not install the Starlink system due to concerns over fuel drag from the antenna and associated costs. Boeing has indicated a 2pc fuel increase, adding about €200,000 to €250,000 annually or roughly €1 per passenger.
Passengers will not pay for internet access, and free usage would lead to high demand without revenue to offset expenses.
“The reality for us is, we can’t afford those costs. Passengers won’t pay for free for internet for internet usage. If it’s free, they’ll use it, but they won’t pay €one each to use the internet.”
