Figures published by the London Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) show that London City Airport is the only major gateway in England that has not yet returned to pre-Covid passenger levels.
September passenger numbers showed a 5pc decrease compared to the same month in 2022, making it the only important British airport not to improve on the previous year.
The decline in passenger numbers has been attributed to issues related to the nearby Canary Wharf commercial district and the reduction in British Airways CityFlyer’s aircraft fleet, which has hindered cargo business and executive jet operations at the airport.
