London Gatwick and easyJet are collaborating to trial Smart Stand technology, aimed at enhancing airport operations by streamlining aircraft turnarounds through centralized management.

The Smart Stand system utilizes a turn coordinator (TCO) in a control room to oversee aircraft arrivals, jet bridge operations, and automate the recording and prediction of planes’ readiness for departure.

This technology is expected to improve efficiency by reducing the need for staff to physically attend to each incoming aircraft, thus enabling faster turnarounds and better punctuality for flights.

The trial began on May 6 and will continue until the summer of next year, with the potential for significant benefits both for operational staff and passenger experiences once implemented regularly.
