Lonely Planet’s Ireland guidebook was among its top five bestsellers from the publisher last year, prompting the upcoming release of its 16th edition in March, 30 years after the initial publication in 1994.
Head of Lonely Planet Europe, Tom Hall, shared that over 1.1m guides to Ireland have been published, emphasising the guide’s meticulous curation by writers who aim to showcase Ireland’s rich cultural tapestry, history, and attractions.
Head of Lonely Planet Europe, Tom Hall said: “We have published over 1.1m guides to Ireland. Every edition has been put together with great love for the country, and we reckon Ireland owes its popularity to a lot of things. Through our writers, the guide puts the reader in the company of a well-informed local expert who can’t wait to share what they love about the country: Ireland’s people, history, music, food and drink and much more besides.”
Alongside Ireland, the publisher’s lineup of best-selling titles in 2023 included destinations like Japan, Iceland, Thailand, and New York City, illustrating a diverse range of travel interests catered to by Lonely Planet.
In the face of competition from AI and online guides, Lonely Planet has revamped its iconic guidebooks post its 50th anniversary, incorporating a fresh visual style with artistic covers, QR codes for connectivity, sustainable travel tips, and innovative section layouts to enhance user experience.
