Lufthansa is experiencing delays and is currently missing 41 widebody aircraft, chief technology officer Grazia Vittadini has said.
Speaking on the margins of the A4E conference in Brussels Ms Vittadini said the airline will be a launch customer for the Boeing B777-9, with expectations to receive the first aircraft in 2026, following several rescheduled timelines since the original plan in 2020.
Lufthansa had initially anticipated the arrival of all twenty ordered B777-9s by the end of 2024, but production and certification challenges have postponed these plans.
The widebody orderbook currently consists of 83 aircraft, including thirty-four B787-9s, fourteen A350-900s, and fifteen A350-1000s, alongside the B777-9s.
Lufthansa Cargo plans to add seven B777-8Fs to its fleet, with the first of these cargo aircraft expected to arrive in 2028, indicating even further delays for the cargo segment.
