Iberia has partnered with Airbus to retrofit its fleet of A320 neo aircraft with the new L bins, which were introduced by Airbus earlier this year.
L bins allow for vertical loading of carry-on roller bags, resulting in a 60pc increase in capacity, accommodating three extra bags per bin.The L bins are designed to have common parts with existing Airspace XL bins and can be retrofitted in three to five days.

Iberia currently operates 16 A320 neo aircraft and plans to begin the retrofit project at the beginning of 2025.
Lufthansa was recently announced as the first retrofit customer for the L bins, as part of its efforts to refurbish a significant portion of its A320 fleet. The bins, which are made of ultra-lightweight and highly stable composite products, will be manufactured by EFW (Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH), an Airbus First Tier supplier for composite components since 1993.
Alberto Garcia, Fleet Planning Director at Iberia, said: “The new luggage compartments increase the hand luggage capacity on our A320neo fleet by 60 per cent. This improvement also translates into faster boarding and deplaning, which also makes it easier for us to continue to meet our strict punctuality targets and provide excellent service to our customers.”
Charbel Youzkatli Head of Airbus Commercial Services Europe said “The L Bins are a game changer, enhancing passengers’ experience and streamlining cabin crew workflow.:
