Malaysian carrier SKS Airways has suspended its scheduled operations due to a reported shortage of funds, which also puts its order for ten E195-E2s at risk. If the order proceeds, SKS Airways will become Malaysia’s first Embraer operator.
SKS Airways, which started operations in 2022, focuses on domestic, short-range, leisure, and commuter flights to previously underserved destinations. The carrier paused flights on the Kuala Lumpur Subang-Tioman and Kuala Lumpur Subang-Pulau Redang routes.
SKS Group, the parent company of SKS Airways, owns several Malaysian entities involved in property development, investment holdings, hospitality, and credit finance.
Despite signing a lease agreement with Azorra Aviation for the ten Embraer regional jets, SKS Airways reportedly faces difficulties in securing funds for the aircraft. The carrier has been in funding discussions with potential investors, including Malaysia Aviation Group, but it seems funding has not been secured yet.
SKS Airways has not provided specific details regarding the issues but mentioned that a statement will be released soon to clarify and provide accurate information. Additionally, there are reports that the SKS CEO, Dzuleira Abu Bakar, tendered her resignation last week, despite assuming the role in June.
