Fianna Fáil’s Dara Calleary from Mayo is the front runner to be appointed Ireland’s 28th Minister for Transport.
The government plans to reorganize responsibilities by transferring the Communications portfolio to the Arts department.
The Department of Tourism is to move to the Department of Enterprise while rural and Community Affairs will gain oversight of the Gaeltacht. Fianna Fáil will have eight senior posts in the Cabinet as departments are reorganised and Fine Gael will have seven positions.
- Fianna Fáil will provide the taoiseach, as well as Public Expenditure, Housing, Justice, Social Protection, Transport, Children and Higher Education.
- Fine Gael will provide Foreign Affairs, Finance, Enterprise, Health, Education, Agriculture and Arts.
