Minister of State Sean Canney will launch the Irish Coast Guard’s new aviation service in Shannon today after a series of setbacks delayed its introduction.
The service is operated by Bristow Ireland under a 10-year contract and includes six AW189 helicopters based in Waterford, Sligo, Dublin, and Shannon. This new service features a 24-hour fixed wing aircraft operation with two King Air aircraft, based at Shannon for the first time.
The launch event will occur at the Coast Guard’s Search and Rescue base at Shannon Airport.
An AW189 helicopter and a fixed wing aircraft will be available for viewing during the event, and Minister Canney will hold a Q&A session afterwards.
Sean Canney shared, “The launch marks a significant enhancement to the Coast Guard’s Search & Rescue and maritime environmental monitoring capabilities.”
