MYAirline saga continues with arrest of founder

Malaysian police arrested Goh Hwan Hu, the co-founder and majority shareholder of MYAirline on October 18,, along with his wife and adult son.

The arrests were made under Malaysia’s Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (2001).

MYAirline suspended all operations on October 12 due to financial problems.

The specific alleged offenses or their connection to MYAirline have not been specified by the authorities.

Goh Hwan Hu, his son Goh Tze Han, and wife Neow Ean Lee are being held for four days to assist in the investigation.

The aftermath of MYAirline’s collapse has led to the Malaysian government suspending the airline’s operating licenses, the resignation of the interim CEO, demands from lessors to retrieve their aircraft, and calls for an inquiry into the airline’s shareholders and license approval process.

Four of the MYAirline fleet are leased from Ireland based lessors including Aercap and Avolon.
