Namibia Air received Cabinet approval as the name for the country’s proposed new national airline on 19 November 2025.

The carrier targeted a launch in the next financial year with registration as Namibia Air (Pty) Ltd under 100pc state ownership.

The ministry finalised market analysis, traffic forecasting and the business model ahead of a fleet plan.

The government considered former Air Namibia employees for roles based on skills and experience while maintaining a lean workforce.

The new airline aimed to avoid past issues like uncompetitive leases and unprofitable routes through commercially driven decisions.

Veikko Nekundi shared “Once we have analysed all those economic metrics, we will again update the public. Everything will be weighed against the business case for the company to survive and be sustainable.”.
