Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras and Abra Group, controller of GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes, halt merger discussions on 25 September, citing lack of progress due to Azul’s Chapter 11 proceedings.

The pair terminate their domestic codeshare from May 2024, which represented under 1pc of GOL’s revenue and faced scrutiny from Brazil’s CADE antitrust body.

A merged entity would control over 60pc of Brazil’s domestic capacity, positioning it as the largest alongside LATAM Airlines Brasil.

Abra maintains openness to future talks with stakeholders on an Azul-GOL combination.

Abra shared  that it is “is ready, willing, and available to engage with the relevant stakeholders.”
