New average speed cameras will start operating from midday on October 25 on the N5 in Swinford, Co Mayo, and the N3 in Co Cavan, aimed at improving road safety in high-collision areas.

Vehicles exceeding the 100km/h speed limit on these roads will face a €160 fine and three penalty points, as part of An Garda Síochána’s commitment to road safety.

In addition to the two new locations, a total of nine new static speed cameras will be deployed by the end of the year, enhancing enforcement and monitoring across various regions.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to reverse the recent rise in road fatalities, with continued government support for increased police presence and effective road policing.
